How the Monroe Institute Impacted My Life

Posted by:

In light of the upcoming Weekend Excursion workshop this May, I wanted to re-share the below story about my own experience with the program:

When I was in my early thirties and still working as a Program Manager at a rapidly growing software company in Schaumburg, Illinois, I already knew I deeply desired to switch my career to become involved with Health and Wellness.  I wanted to help people live a better quality of life but I did not know where to start.  I had learned about The Monroe Institute, located in Virginia, where people traveled to from all over the world, to experience altered states of consciousness including out of body travel.  The Institute had developed Hemi-Sync, an audio-based technology to assist with the different states of consciousness.  I didn’t really care for meditation but out of body travel sounded so far out and fascinating, I just had to try it out for myself.  So I signed up for a week-long Gateway Voyage program at The Monroe Institute and traveled there in January 1997.

During the week long Gateway Voyage program, I did not have any out of body experiences, but instead discovered a whole new world.  For the first time in my life, I experienced what I now know to be meditative states, where the mind is awake while the body is asleep.  And I received one very special gift.  During one of the Hemi-Sync audio sessions, I asked of the dark blue void “How can I be involved with Wellness, where do I start?”  Almost instantly, I received a clear mental image of glowing hands coming out of my own.  It suddenly made perfect sense.  I had always loved receiving and giving massage, going all the way back to high school.  I would start a business helping the masses combat stress and aches through massage!

That week at Monroe Institute changed my life.  I have never doubted since then that we are so much more than our physical bodies and I have never forgotten the incredible sense of peace I felt after spending hours each day in mediation with the help of Hemi-Sync.  And, of course, I received that insight that led me to start Dreamclinic.

While others may not have the opportunity to fly down to Virginia for a whole week for the Gateway Voyage program, they can still experience the transformative nature of Hemi-Sync meditation right here in Seattle with the Weekend Excursion workshop, created by The Monroe Institute based on the Gateway Voyage program. Everyone has their own experience with Hemi-Sync, but a shared reality is that it leads to a new perspective on the essence of our being and a new experience of peace and self-acceptance for those that have not meditated before.
